Poetry Shane The Poet

My Violent Eraser

You (really) are my violent eraser,
So set to go, you say “just chase her”
But your legs can’t move…
And your heart can’t choose
I’ve been waiting up here,
So far to scream to catch an ear
But don’t hear me say
“You can’t go, you can’t go away”
And the stars shine,
And the way you wear it
I never should have shot mine,
I can tell you love to feel fine
But you,
Thank you for being so hard for me to forget, to forgive and to live again
You’re my violent eraser,
And I just couldn’t chase her
She left undercover
Under the stars
Your violent eraser,
But that didn’t phase her
She said “run, go as far as you can,
And run until just can’t take no more”
So now,
Tell me your best deal,
Don’t try to get here
You don’t know how I feel
My violent eraser,
I’ve spent nights wondering if you still have that crooked smile
The way you’d pull love out with every breath
But I couldn’t chase her
For two thousand miles,
I would’ve followed
But you don’t believe,
In what I call true love
For you, a thousand times over I’m sorry,
I couldn’t allow this to go on
But you don’t believe,
And I can’t call here anymore
Now float for the islands,
Know for how far you would’ve swam to keep away and “be a good human,”
But you won’t believe me
You’re my violent eraser,
The pain that escapes her
Rips rivers down her arms
And I’d just “forget her”
Not knowing what things were said,
The time we tore,
Was it all it my head?
Or was it something more?
